Masterseminar "Computational Ethics"
- Beschreibung
Computational Ethics is the application of computing methods to ethics. It is is a subfield of Computational Philosophy, which investigates the use of computing methods in philosophy. Computational Ethics has obtained interesting results by modeling societies of agents equipped with various ethical principles and observing the impact of agents’ ethics on the agent society. A typical issue of Computational Ethics investigations is whether an ethical norms may can be explained by evolution.
The seminar will be devoted first to review the so far rather limited literature of the emerging field Computational Ethics, second to conduct original research experiments in Computational Ethics.
The work will be in teams of 2 to 3 seminar attendants. Every team will have to present two research articles in two talks, to develop (that is, to design, to code and to run) an original computer simulation aimed at an original investigation in Computational Ethics and to deliver a written report on their computer simulation and its outcomes.
Participation is limited to 30 master students. This master seminar is not for bachelor students. The grading will be based on the talks, the participation to the discussions following the talks, the projects and the projects’ reports.
